Renegade Economist Interview

Flattr this!

I was interviewed by the Renegade Economist when I was in England recently.

I can’t better the Renegade Economist’s own explanation of their role and membership:

A Renegade Economist is an individual who — through their actions — positively disrupts how we live, interact and do business.

Impossible to identify by demographics, gender or background the Renegade Economist cannot be pigeonholed by social status or material trappings. These are people in every industry who have an overriding desire: to eliminate the glaring disconnect between who they are and what they do.

The Renegade Economist website is a meeting ground to share common experiences, stimulate debate, tell authentic stories and embark on new thinking about the future of business.

A Renegade Economist could be setting up a tech company in Chicago, looking after her family in sub Saharan Africa or running an excellent business in India. They have the same mindset, the same human values, the same desire to better their lot just different countries, lifestyles and resources.

By testing conventional wisdom these urgent modifiers actions are based on social justice, conservation of the planet and the equal distribution of opportunity. They don’t wait for the ‘perfect time’ they are here and it is now.

Those who desperately try to preserve the status quo — serve only to highlight how the future is in the hands of those people who have evolved with technology. These digital natives have inadvertently created a quiet social revolution that happens once every thousand years — now they’re in power.

Living in the age of consequence — where modern finance represents the triumph of technical proficiency over social responsibility – groups of talented people, business starters, writers and leaders are mobilised to put an end to practices they do not believe in. We support that aim.

The Renegade Economist is a do-it-your-selfer who nurtures the global micro brand. They understand that profit is not a goal in itself just a by-product of effective business. They also know that there isn’t one secret, one process, one solution there are a thousand’s — maybe millions.

Time is the entrepreneur’s most precious resource so we curate the best knowledge and thinkers so people can make informed decisions. This means they can then acquire the correct tools, techniques, models and mind-sets they need to respond to the inevitable opportunities that change brings.

Suspicious of outmoded journalism and unrealistic expectations the Renegade Economist is a survive and thrive guide encouraging individuals (often blessed with sprezzatura) to remain at ease with the inevitable uneasiness that goes hand in hand when travelling the narrow road of 21st century entrepreneurship.

Business is exhilarating and the Renegade Economist hub gives a narrative for these ‘wild spirits’ to come together and hunt out opportunities.

About Steve Keen

I am Professor of Economics and Head of Economics, History and Politics at Kingston University London, and a long time critic of conventional economic thought. As well as attacking mainstream thought in Debunking Economics, I am also developing an alternative dynamic approach to economic modelling. The key issue I am tackling here is the prospect for a debt-deflation on the back of the enormous private debts accumulated globally, and our very low rate of inflation.
